Additional social science and science

1. Find and read the Wiki page on Simon Bolivar. Ask yourself: why is this man admired throughout the world? What did he dream of? What were his ideals and hopes?

2. read about the Yanomamo people again here.

Science:
Look at the weather maps:
  1. Real-time data sources to use in weather forecasting projects
    1. Conditions for the last 24 hours reported by the National Weather Service - Select State from the pull down menu, then select City
    2. Intellicast Radar Loop of the last 6 hours covering the contiguous United States. This Doppler radar site indicates clouds, rain and snow with different colors, and refreshes 4 times per hour. They now offer a 12 hour java loop. More importantly, this loop allows you to step forward, or backward, one image at a time.
    3. National Forecast Maps from NOAA
    4. Weather Underground - look up any city in the US and most cities around the world

This week we will work with weather maps.

1. Math
monday 9-2
tuesday 9-3
wednesday 9-4

email me the answers

English
2. email me the paragraphs you owe me.

3. Social Science South America
Monday: Amazon River and Amazon River Basin.
1. What areas does the Amazon River basin cover?
2. What kinds of people and fish and animals and plants live there?
3. What economically use products and activities may be found there?

Look at this website, read about the Amazon Basin, look at the Smithsonian Zoo, especially the webcams, read about the Yanomamo people.
tu
I'll post tuesday and wednesday assignments in your email!

4. Science Monday
three articles at least each day on a major science news website.
WEATHER: read about cold fronts and warm fronts. What are their different weather effects? Read about weather interactions in this site on creating a new Hawaiian Island. Follow the actvity through to the end.

This week: test on friday about science. Tiuesday and wednesday I will post later.

April 20

MATH

1. Finish chapter 8, move on to chapter 9
2. South America

Monday: Find out about Patagonia. What countries own it? What kind of people live there? How do they make a living? What is the terrain and topography like? What are the economically important minerals and other resources? Then write three paragraphs describing the land, the politics and economics, and the native/local people. Email them to me today.

Tuesday: The Pampas. What kind of people live there? What are they called? What are they famous for? How do they make a living? Write me one paragraph on the pampas.

Wednesday: Read up on Venezuela. Who is the current president? Why is the Bush Administration unhappy with him? What makes Venezuela so important to the United States? Write a 2-3 paragraphs describing the situation between the Bush Administration and Venezuela and how it has evolved since the current president came to power.

Science: three items at National Geographic or Discovery.com each day
Science: we're shifting from life science to earth science. Some of this you know, so let's review:

Read about the Water Cycle
Now read about the Earth's water.

Reading, CHinese, art as usual. Every day lift weights!

In the diagram above, hexagon ABCDEF is a regular hexagon. W and X are parallel. Z is perpendicular to W and X.

1. Knowing these things, give the measurement of every angle (hint: a regular hexagon, each angle has how many degrees?)
2. name two pairs of linear angles
3. name two pairs of vertical angles (opposite angles)
4. What kind of triangle is g-h-i?
5. triangle j-k-l also has a special name. what is it?

Algebra

1. x -1 = 2

2. 2x - 3 = 7

3. 1/2x -10 = 15

4. x2 -5 = 44

5. 2x + 7 = 4 -x

6. 4x + 4 = -8

7. 20x -6 = 4

Solve for a

8. 2a - y = 4x - 4a

9. 4a - x = x

10. 5a - x2 = 3x - y

11. a + 2a - xy = 2xy + 4a

12. a2 + bx = bx + 25

M and N are parallel
P is at a 45 degree angle to Q so r is 45 degrees

1. Give the measures of angles a,b,c,d,e,f,g, and h
2. VSEC form what shape with four sides? What is the sum of its four angles?
3. Name two pairs of corresponding angles.
4. What is the measure of angle K?
5. Look up the terms isosceles triangle and equilateral triangle. Which kind is formed by lines P,N, and Q?

Geometry Review.
In the image above:

M and N are parallel.
T is perpendicular to M and N

1. How many degrees is angle Y?
2. If K is 40 degrees, how big is angle X?
3. x + l + y add up to how many degrees?
4. If k and d are the same size, give the measurements of angles a,b,c,d,e, and f
5. give two examples of linear angles
6. give two examples of vertical angles (opposite angles)
7. angles w, j, and y have a special name. They are....
8. If lines T and P meet, what would be the measurement of the angle they form?

History:
We did some on the continent of Africa. Now we are going to look into some other histories. Hopefully I'll have time to finish looking at the Kosovo paper. Start thinking about some other things to work on for another long report.

Science
three articles, continue to review chapters 16-20. Since we're doing geometry, don't miss this article on the hexagon on Saturn.
