MONDAY
History:

We are now going to look at the expansion of Islam. Please know your historical facts, there will be a test on Friday.

First, read this overview page. The key points here you should know into what areas did Islam initially expand? Why didn't it expand into Europe? What is the origin of the Sunni-Shia split?

Next, read this page on the first four Caliphs and the Umayyads.

What is the time frame? What is happening in Europe? What empire rules China? What about the Americas? (don't answer, just think about it). EXTRA: read about the civil war and the Sunni-Shiite split. Today, in the middle east, Iraq is split between the Sunnis, the Shiites, and the Kurds. Which branch of Islam is the most common in Iran? What is the cultural difference between the Iranians and the Iraqis? (don't answer, just try and think about it).

2. Science
Chapter 14-1. There will be a test on Friday morning as well. Pick 3 or 4 articles at Science Daily News Also, see if you can remember to remind me to fix the microscope this week.
